Pupils and teachers must work harder

Pupils, teachers and Parents need to work together for greater success.

Out of 73 matric pupils Jabulani Technical College managed to produce 12 distinctions and an 88.8% pass rate.

The school says the pass rate was not good enough and aims to work harder this coming year, setting the schools’ pass benchmark higher to push pupils further.

Speaking on behalf of the staff and the governing body, SGB chairperson Mzimkhulu Hlalokana said they have strategies in place to make sure that the schools pass rate improves.

Hlalokana says it all starts with the students because they are the ones who write the papers at the end of the day so the basis of our intention is to motivate them first and foremost.

Other than motivating pupils by merely speaking to them, the school makes use of peer tutoring as their functional tool.

“Peer tutoring involves pupils teaching fellow pupils what they have learnt because at times students understand each other better than they understand their teachers,” Hlalokana said.

The school also plans to intensify the year end internal camps where pupils stay at school in preparation of the year end examination.

“The camps are helpful because when students are home they are exposed to a lot of distractions but when they are at camp, all they do is study and the do this with experts in a specific subject matter,” Hlalokana said.

According to Hlalokana the drive of the school in this coming year is to set a benchmark in tests that the school has prepared and aims to incorporate the test knowledge with practical experience to enhance memory and performance.
