Shoba says she owes her success to her brother

Shoba silences critics and gets five distinctions.

The highest performing pupil at Emshukantambo Senior Secondary School in Pimville says she owes her success to the encouragement she received from her brother.

Nokubonga Shoba, who got five distinctions in her matric exams, says if it wasn’t for the constant support she received, she doesn’t know how she would have survived.

“I always looked up to him as he was in matric last year, I wanted to achieve what he achieved,” Shoba said.

She said her brother stayed up with her and pushed her to do her best in all her subjects.

Wandile Shoba, Nokubonga’s brother says his sister outdid herself in getting the marks that she did and “words can’t express how proud I am of her”.

“She is a better version of me, and I knew she would achieve the goals she has set herself,” he said.

“It is not the result that counts, it is what you do with that result,” Nokubonga said when asked what she would say to those that didn’t pass.

Pule Hlahane, a teacher, said he was happy with the result as it proves that if a pupil from a school in Soweto can achieve such marks, nothing is impossible.
