Dangerous weapons confiscated during operation.

Last Tuesday Moroka Police embarked on Operation When Duty Calls around in all the areas they police.

With this campaign, the police with the assistance of residents managed to arrest 149 people for priority crimes such as murder, armed robbery, car high jacking and possession of firearms.

The campaign lasted from 8am to 5pm with the law enforcers taking short breaks.

Station communications officer John Serala said this was a great campaign to end the old year and start the new year.

“This campaign has helped boost the moral and encouraged our colleagues to work hard and do better during the year in their fight against crime.

“Some of those arrested have been on the run from the law for serious crimes but we managed to trace and arrest them during the campaign.”

Serala said during the campaign they managed to confiscate dangerous weapons.

“From some we confiscated weapons such as 12 firearms, five pangas and 50 hand and butcher knives.”

Serala pleads with residents to play their role in assisting them fight crime.

“Alone as officers it’s difficult to win the fight against crime, so we call on residents to come forward and give us tip offs and information relating to criminal activities they see happening in their areas.”
