Four for SA Chess Junior Closed

The Knights Chess Team dominates chess tourney.

The Knights Chess Team made Diepkloof proud when they won two gold medals, two silver medals and a bronze at the Metro Chess Annual held in Durban.

The six participants dominated the tournament at the teams they were assigned to.

Four of the six pupils who went to the tournament have qualified for the South African Chess Junior Closed at Easter when they will be playing for a spot in the South African Chess Team.

Knights coach, Linda Makhubela, said that they have improved tremendously.

“At the last Metro we did not perform well and now we exceeded our expectations because out of six pupils, four qualified for the closed,” he said.

Makhubela said that travelling to the tournament was hard because they did not have a sponsor.

“We currently don’t have a sponsor and its hard travelling with young children when we don’t have any money. We are asking the community to help us and sponsor the children,” he said.
