40-year-old police officer hangs himself on a tree next to Midway Train Station.
Moroka Police communications officer John Serala confirmed that a 40-year-old police officer employed at Orlando police station commited suicide by hanging himself on a tree next to Midway Train Station last week.
Serala said: “The man had a house at Protea Glen and was also renting a back room in Chiawelo and at the time of his death he was still an active member of the SAPS.
“Though I cannot give out more information from his suicide note found in his pocket, the man had so many problems, including financial and family problems, which we understand were factors in him committing suicide.”
Serala pleaded with residents to talk and seek help when having problems.
“We have organisation such as trauma centre at every police station, Nicro, SANCA and other home-based organisations that provide counselling to people affected by social issues.
“I urge anyone who is having any kind of trouble to visit such centres rather than committing suicide.”
