Mob Justice continues to be a problem in Pimville

Many more mob justice cases were reported at the Kliptown Police Station.

To usher in the New Year, many mob justice cases were reported at the Kliptown Police Station.

Kliptown Police spokesperson Nondumiso Mpantsha, said this issue is becoming a huge problem as the perpetrators end up being the ones that lay charges of assault against residents instead of the other way around.

“Instead of dealing with the crime that was committed, we now have to deal with residents that took the law into their own hands,” she said.

She said that even though residents are allowed to do a citizens’ arrest, they are not allowed to beat up the suspect.

“We urge residents especially at the Kliptown Informal Settlement, to let the law take its course,” she said.
