DA fight against e-toll goes on
Maimane believes the DA is the only party that can put a stop to the controversial e-tolls.
Last Thursday, the Democratic Alliance (DA) launched an anti-tolling rally in Johannesburg.
The DA’s Gauteng premier candidate, Mmusi Maimane, is adamant the DA is the only party that can put a stop to the controversial e-tolls.
The e-tolling system was officially launched on December 3 and this has not pleased motorists who have had had to adjust to a petrol hike in the same week.
Maimane said the DA needs the support of people to fight e-tolls.
He said: “I will not be buying an e-tag; it is not illegal not to do so.
“The time has come for South Africans to make a stand.
“I am with you, together we can fight this system and bring the change that Gauteng deserves.”
The DA has plans to call a referendum so that the people can have a voice against the further rollout of e-tolling.
“I am also prepared to interdict the next phase of e-tolls and fight national government through an inter-governmental dispute,” he said.
