Major accident leaves one dead

A Culpable homicide case has been opened says police.

An accident involving at taxi and motorcyclist happened this past Friday at the intersection of Olywenhout and Albertina Sisulu roads in Bosmont.

Allegedly the taxi has skipped the red robot knocking the cyclist off his motor bike and died on the scene.

Sophiatown police communication officer warrant TJ De Bruyn said, “The taxi driver turned at the robot and hit the motorcyclist.”

Residents have said that at this intersection taxi drivers don’t stop and skip the robot on a daily basis’s.

The motor cyclist has lost his life and the taxi driver is in custody.

“A case of culpable homicide has been opened,” said Edna Mamonyane JMPD spokesperson.

“The taxi driver has been arrested and has appeared in court this past Monday,” said De Bruyn.

Zaidon Billings a resident who was on the scene when the accident occurred said, “We have blocked the service roads on Albertina Sisulu Road, because of pupils that use these roads to go to school and how buses and taxi drivers behave on these service roads.”

Residents had said that taxi drivers drive reckless and they told them on many occasions about how they drive.

“The deceased was a 31-year-old man and his family have been notified, said De Bruyn.”

The family of the deceased didn’t want to comment.
