Hailstones as big as golf balls, some residents affected

Hailstorm proves too much for some residents.

Last Thursday saw some residents from Pimville, Kliptown and Klipspruit deeply affected by flooding when a hailstorm proved to be more than they could handle.

The Molapo family from Pimville Zone Two, said they were lucky that no one got hurt or that their house wasn’t that affected by the hailstorm.

Lebogang Molapo said he was excited when it started to hail as he had never seen such big stones, but then he felt bad for those whose houses could be flooded because of the storm.

He said his family was lucky because they had adequate shelter during the storm.

“There is a lot of rain predicted this festive season, and I urge people to be safe and take security measures to secure their safety,” Molapo said.

Khethiwe Mazibuko from Pimville Zone Nine said her children played with the hail because even though the hailstorm was hectic, they thank God that they were not hurt.

In Kliptown, residents that live on the banks of the Klipriver were more affected by the storm than residents that live closer to the railway line.

Thandi Nkosi said every time there is a storm, they fear for their lives because they don’t know how far the river is going to flood.

“We always remove water from our houses whenever it rains, so last Thursday is no different,” she said.
