1000 men unite against abuse

Men are urged to join the walkathon as a fight against women and children abuse.

The Eldorado Park True Men’s Forum will bring together 1000 men to unite against the fight in women and child abuse.

“We aim to get men to take back their roles in society,” said Sebastian De Villiers, chairperson of the forum.

The day will kick off with a four kilometre walk to the Eldorado Park police station where men will sign a pledge stating they will not commit any form of crime, sexual violence, mental and physical abuse, adultery and anger towards women and children.

“Don’t think this is just another event, this event will cause Eldos to unite,” De Villiers said.

The Eldorado Park True Men’s Forum was established because men lost their role as men because of gender-based discrimination. It aims to build on peer education, education support, family intervention, self development and leadership skills and soft skills. It was called into existence by the chief director of Social Development, Bongani Ngumane.

“We want to instil dignity and responsibility in our men and we know that if we work hard, we can grow,” said the treasurer Wayne Halters.

1000 true men united will be an annual event to serve as a reminder to men of their role. Eldorado Park True Men’s Forum are encouraging men to change their mindset to conquer.

The walkathon will start at 9am from Georgia Avenue Extension seven (behind Canaan Ministries) on December 7. It will continue with street soccer and fun-filled activities for children. Residents are urged to join in the events. For more information contact De Villiers on 076 564 7816, Halters on 072 457 8125 or Markus Fourie on 061 437 1175.
