Jub Jub bail application denied

Jub Jub fails in bail application.

Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye’s bail application was denied today at the Johannesburg High Court. He was not in court for the application.

Judge Natvarlal Ranchod said Maarohanye is a flight risk and should not be granted bail and the application for bail is refused. This followed an unsuccessful attempt for bail in the Protea Magistrate’s Court in September.

Maarohanye and his co-accused Themba Tshabalala were each sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Protea Magistrate’s Court last year. The two were found guilty of murder, attempted murder, driving under the influence of drugs and racing on a public road.

They crashed their cars into a group of pupils in Protea North, on March 8, 2010.

Four boys were killed in the crash, and two others were permanently brain damaged. Maarohanye was asking the court to grant him bail, pending the appeal against his murder conviction and sentence.
