Safety awareness goes Honey Bee

ADT security company bring safety entertaining show to HoneyBee Pre-school.

ADT Security and a well-known Johannesburg entertainer has hosted a demonstration of some safety skills that can be used at home in the form of an interactive show for pre-primary and primary school children.

Mr ADT who is played by Darrin McDowall, was at Honey Bee pre-school in Bosmont to help create awareness on safety tips.

The show focuses on personal safety, including not putting pills or anything in children’s mouths without asking their parents first, dangers in the kitchen, electricity safety – not touching or pulling plugs, not playing with fire, matches, lighters or candles, the danger of playing with guns, how to behave around dogs and home invasion – what to do if a stranger comes into your house.

Other topics also covered, include:

What is good touching and bad touching, how to use a panic alarm button, never to open the door to a stranger, and the importance of knowing a parent’s contact details and other emergency numbers, such as the number for their security company and the South African Police Services (SAPS).

The fun-filled show has been successfully rolled out in Gauteng and in the Western Cape to rave reviews from both teachers and pupils.

Children are never too young to be educated and made aware, in a non-threatening manner, of the dangers that exist in our society.

MacDowall has a fun, friendly way of addressing these pertinent issues.

He has found the happy medium as this show keeps the children both informed and entertained.

“Unfortunately, in South Africa there is no escape from conversations about crime,” says Clive Humphrey, managing director of ADT: Central.

“Children are never too young to be educated and made aware, in a non-threatening manner, of the dangers that exist in our society. They need to be empowered to be able to protect themselves in a dangerous situation,” said Humphrey.
