Six men run 1 850 km to raise awareness

Six brave men from Limpopo decided to take a stand against women and child abuse and raise awareness.

Six men have taken on a crazy challenge to run and cycle from Cape Town to Limpopo to raise awareness for 16 days of activism against gender violence and to raise funds for two youth projects in Limpopo.

The team called ‘The Crazy Challenge’ is led by Samuel Ntsanwisi and they started the 1 850 km challenge on October 30 in Cape Town. The team reached Diepkloof Extreme Park last Friday afternoon.

Ntsanwisi said that the idea came from the rising violence and abuse facing the youth in the townships and the rural areas.

“Working for NGO’s, I have realised that a lot of young people and children are facing violent and abusive situations all the time and they do not talk about it. I decided that I want to break the silence by doing something that a lot of people think that’s it is impossible,” he said.

Ntsanwisi said that the money raised will be donated to the Bjatladi Youth Development and Vantswa va Xivoni.

“The two non-profit orginasations serve more than 10 000 children and youth through sports, cuture, arts, education and mentoring projects,” he said.

Welcoming the runners the Diepkloof Brigadier Malisela said that it takes a strong person to take a stand.

“We are very proud as Diepkloof to be hosting the crazy challenge. The crazy challenge is doing their part to raise awareness about gender violence and I urge the community to follow suite,” he said.

Ntsanwisi said that they plan to reach Limpopo on November 30.
