People left homeless after heavy rain

Heavy rain devastates community.

At least 12 shacks were destroyed by the heavy rain last week Wednesday in Doornkop Block 12.

Block 12 is an informal settlement to a lot of people who still wait for their houses since they applied in 1996.

As a result of the rain incident, many have been left homeless.

One of the victims Thabo Tshabalala said they lost everything because of the rain.

“We are left with nothing but only ourselves,” he cried.

Tshabalala’s shack was swept away by the floods wetting the furniture, food and clothes.

Democratic Alliance’s person on the ground, Masesi Sekolo said the problem is likely to reoccur if a solution cannot be provided immediately.

Sekolo said the government must try to resolve the challenge residents in Doornkop face on daily basis.

“I believe that if proper houses were built for these people, none of this would have happened.

She said two children were reported injured in some of the incidents.

“People must vote for any party they believe will bring change to their lives, a party that will ensure that service delivery is a first priority,” said Sekolo.
