Three weeks ago, Thabo Makoko’s spaza shop in Zone 10 burned down in the early hours of the morning, leaving damaging the equipment in the shop and leaving his stock in ashes.

Determined not to let that get him under he reopened his shop a few days after it mysteriously burned to ashes.

This ordeal has devastated Makoko who has lost thousands of rands as a result of the fire.

It is alleged that a car was seen next to the shop that morning and a man was seen walking towards the shop and that he ran back to the car at a time the fire had erupted.

No arrests have been made as yet.

Makoko has not let this alleged malicious crime stop him from continuing with his business.

He said: “It is hard for me but I will not let this stop me from being a successful businessman.”

He thanked the support of his customers who have expressed their sadness about what happened.

“Giving up is not an option.

“I have worked on this spaza shop for years and I will not let this slow me down.

“It might be hard now but soon I will be back on my feet,” he said.

Makoko said his priority as a businessman is to ensure that customer’s needs are met.
