The Soweto Hospice Paediatrician ward was renovated with money raised by a Grade 12 pupil.

The Soweto Hospice Paediatrics ward was renovated with the help of a high school pupil.

Alex Kuttschreuter a Grade 12 pupil decided to raise money for the hospice after his mother died at the HospiceWits in Houghton three years ago.

Kuttschreuter with the pupils of the school he attends raised more than R20 000 with school fundraising projects.

The brand and communication manager for HospiceWits Julie McLeod said that with the support of other donors they were able to renovate the paediatrics ward.

“The ward has been turned into a positive bright place where children can heal and get strong. We are proud of the new ward, everything is perfect,” she said.

McLeod said “we urge the community to contact the hospice if they have children who are dignosed with HIV/Aids, cancer or any terminal illnesses, we will help. We don’t want anyone to struggle alone.”

Guests were kept entertained by music.
