School receives sport’s kits and portable lab

OMO Community projects are aimed at helping children achieve their full potential.

The OMO Schools’ Challenge is now in its seventh year, helping pupils unleash their full potential through spending time outdoors and getting much-deserved physical activity.

Schools around South Africa have put their weight behind this year’s consumer campaign that will reward pupils with sports equipment and science labs.

The nationwide consumer competition will result in the entire population at 75 South African schools receiving brand new sports kits in 2013, plus a science portalab per school.

OMO understands that the key building blocks to a brighter future for our children, begins with subjects such as science. That is why OMO has extended the campaign this year, to include science portalabs in an effort to make science in the classroom more meaningful and fun.

To celebrate OMO’s 50th birthday, and its on-going commitment to communities and children around South Africa, OMO decided to include special science prizes for 75 schools.

These science portalabs have a proven success rate in helping mould young minds by providing practical application to what they learn.

The benefits include a +/- 30% increase in pupils’ natural science assessment marks, they promote teamwork and get pupils’ involved and moreover, because they make science lessons more meaningful they improve attitudes to the subject.

OMO Community projects are aimed at helping children achieve their full potential. When children participate in activities such as sport they learn important life skills which are invaluable to them as they grow up.

Last year OMO sponsored a science portaLab to Amazulu School, and after it had been put to use in the school the principal commented ‘After one year of the science portalab being put to use in our school, our physical science pass rate flew from 53% for the previous year to 85% in 2012. Never has this happened in the history of this school’.

Caroline Clayton, spokesperson for OMO says that ‘OMO has been actively involved in the OMO Schools Challenge for the past seven years, the results of which have impacted children all over South Africa. We believe our efforts have definitely contributed to improving children’s performance at school and consequently provided them with opportunities to achieve their full potential’. Clayton goes on to say ‘OMO, one of South Africa’s best loved brands, is celebrating its 50th birthday this year, and part of this celebration is to ensure that the brand continues to play a vital role in communities around South Africa to assist children in achieving their full potential, so that they can help build a brighter future for all in South Africa’.
