Parents were overjoyed to see their children being rewarded for the hard work they put in this year at an awards ceremony hosted by Ebuhleni Primary School.

Emotions were high as certificates and medals were awarded to pupils in Grade One till Four for best performing students in math, english, isiZulu, and best overall performing student.

The message of the day to parents by principal Nelisiwe Khoza is to do the best for your child and set good examples now so that they are properly guided for the future.

“It is easy for pupils to lose direction, we are living in times where our children become wild and that makes it harder to guide their decisions and behaviour at a later stage.

“Children have memories of when they were young and practice what they have learnt growing up, that is why parents should behave in a manner that will influence the child positively in the future,” Khoza said.

First place winner of the award for best Grade Two pupil Siphesihle Ngidi says the secret to his success is not only putting school first in his life but he makes sure he has time to do everything he likes.

“When I get home I always watch my favourite shows on television and I make sure I eat first then I do my homework,” Ngidi said.

Ngidi’s father, Bonginkosi Ngwenya says that if parents want a better education for their children then they should make the effort to be actively involved and committed to their children’s success.

Offering support encourages pupils to do their best to impress both the teacher and the parent, so if you don’t show care in your child’s education then it is likely that they won’t care about their own education the way they should, Ngwenya said.
