Safety tips for businesses

"When making a withdrawal, you must hide the screen when you enter your secret pin."

Manager of Dobsonville Mall, Justin Mabalane, has issued safety hint summaries to his tenants and other business people for the festive season.

Mabalane said November and December is the period when many people get large sums of money from their workplace or businesses.

He urges ATM users not to ask for help from strangers but rather speak to the bank’s security.

“When making a withdrawal, you must hide the screen when you enter your secret pin.

Mabalane’s tips for shops;

– Keep your back door locked at all times.

– Do not leave merchandise or stock unattended.

– Never become distracted when working with an open cash register.

– Ensure that doors and windows are locked at night.

– Avoid banking at the same time every day and do not use the same person for banking.

– Tenants should change all locks of both front and back doors and the alarm pin code.

With regard to shoplifting, Mabalane says what shopkeepers must know is:

– Shoplifters work in groups and they increase during peak periods.

– They favour busy, one or two fast selling shops.

– Be cautious of shopping bags, large purses, big coats and garments with big pockets.

– Unattended items are likely to be grabbed by the shoplifters.

– When working in groups, others will distract employees away from the area they are going to steal from.

– Identify suspects as to race, gender, hair colour, weight, age, clothing and any other prominent features.

– It is advisable to press charges against shoplifters.

“If all of these guides can be accepted, safety and security will be fully guaranteed,” said Mabalane.
