Registration and re-registration weekend goes smoothly

More than 10 voting stations in Diepkloof welcome new voters.

The Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) opened registration and re-registrations for next year’s elections on the weekend.

More than 10 voting stations were opened in Diepkloof. People who did not get a chance to register can still register at their local municipal electoral offices.

One of the motivations for registering to vote for many Diepkloof residents is to get houses.

Tinyiko Queen Maluleke registered at the Diepkloof Multipurpose Hall on Saturday.

The 47-year-old said that she is registering so that she can vote to get better accommodation.

“The last time I voted because I wanted a job and I got it. I live in a shack and I want a house, that is why I am voting next year,” she said.
