Youth urged to register to vote

Register and join the millions of South Africans who are already on the national voters' roll

The youth is urged to register to vote for next year’s elections.

Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) chief electoral officer Masotho Moepya said next year’s elections will have more voting stations.

He said this at their launch recently.

He said the commission invites all eligible citizens who are not yet registered as voters to use this opportunity to join the millions of South Africans who are already on the national voters’ roll.

Moepya said the number of people on the voters’ roll had risen by 21.3% since it was first compiled in 1998.

Residents are urged to register to vote at different voting stations in Pimville.

The registration period will run from November 8 until November 10.

Ward 22 councillor Lizzy Mabaso said it is important for young people to be involved in the country’s politics.

“When people vote, they exercise their right and they can’t vote if they don’t register,” said Mabaso.

The councillor said residents need to go to their voting stations with their id documents in order to register.
