Kathrada Park gets help

A clean-up campaign was organised to assist residents from Kathrada Park Informal settlement after a fire destroyed hundreds of homes.

After recent fires that destroyed hundreds of homes at Kathrada Park Informal settlement earlier this year, a clean-up campaign was organised to assist residents.

The councillor of Ward 82, Susan Stewart, was the organiser of this clean up campaign and she is determined to encourage a clean and healthy environment.

Residents helped in the clean up, doing their part in changing the environment that they live in.

Also, municipal entities of the City of Joburg (COJ), such as Joburg Water, the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), Pick it Up, Environmental Health, City Parks were part of the campaign.

They were tasked with repairs of water leaks, filling of potholes, picking litter up, pest control and various other tasks.

“It was a successful campaign except for the fact that food was not organised for the people working on it.
“I was not satisfied as in the past the COJ has always organised a meal for the local volunteers so I will be raising this issue at the ward council forum meeting,” said Stewart

Protea Hotel in Wanderers visited the same day with donations for residents.

“They gave a generous donation of soap, lotions, sheets, duvet covers and pillow cases to the residents,” said Stewart.
Stewart thanks the Protea Hotel for their generosity.
