If these three schools can do it, others can too – MEC

There must never be a school that is being regarded as a failing school.

During his school monitoring tour to three different schools in SEPHIMA, member of executive committee (MEC) for Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebohang Maile, said there must never be a school that is being regarded as a failing school.

He and his team, accompanied by councillors and African National Congress (ANC) officials, interacted with teachers and pupils and offered motivational speeches.

“If Tetelo and Bhukulani High Schools and Dikgabane Primary school could produce such great results for their year ends last year then why can’t other schools do the same this year.

“This year, 2013, we don’t want to see any school producing less than 70% come end of the year results, if there is any help that is needed by the school so to improve the education of the children it must be communicated now so that the relevant department can assist,” he said.

For 2012 end of the year results, Protea-based Tetelo High achieved 92.9 %, Dikgabane Primary School 95% and Zola-based Bhukulani a 86 % pass rate.

Tetelo principal Linda Molefe said: “This great results are of a great working team that comprises teachers, parents, the school governing body and our focussed pupils.

“We hope that this year’s classes can up the results and maybe achieve 100% at the end of the year.”

Dikgabane principal Mita Mtshali promised that this year they will pull up their socks and do well.

“Teachers come to work to produce great education for children and aim at achieving 100% pass rates.

“But due to many challenges many schools don’t achieve that 100%, so at my school we are more dedicated and motivated by the results but we feel that this year we must do well and up the results and we are going to achieve that by introducing new learning and teaching strategies, “she said.

“I would like to urge parents to make sure that they visit their schools and check what they can do to help improve the culture of learning and teaching at schools. By doing that I’m sure the year ends results of many schools will improve,” said Maile.
