Joburg launch Councillor’s Political Education School

"Councillors should be able to debate on infrastructure and make society aware that we are delivering".

The African National Congress (ANC) last Thursday hosted an orientation seminar as part of its new political school for the councillors in the City of Johannesburg.

Speaking at the launch at City of Johannesburg office in Braamfontein, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe said “Councillors should be able to debate on infrastructure and make society aware that we are delivering”.

“We must make our government is more capable and effective with the political capacity to lead development and transform the economy.

“Through the political school councillors must anchor their thinking by familiarising themselves with the policies of the ANC.”

Mantashe said that all cadres must lead and transform society daily and make sure that every citizen enjoys his or her stay in the area.

“It is the responsibility of ward councillors not only to assist ANC members but to serve the society as a whole, ANC activists must work hard to have partnerships with the community and the state.

“The ANC is serious about governance therefore councillors must lead and serve with humility and diligence at all the times with no failure.”

Regional secretary of the ANC, David Makhura, said, “We are deeply committed to build a cadre who combines attributes such as integrity, competence and commitment to social change.

“The role of the school is to educate councillors and produce competent cadres to lead society. The ANC of the future must be an ANC of strong leadership and an institution guided by policy.”
