Businessman motivates Grade pupils

“I have been in the situation they are in and I know how scary it is. I want to motivate the Grade 12s to work hard so that they can be successful in life,”

Grade 12 Pupils started writing their end year exams on Monday.

Vusi Mhlanga a businessman who grew up in Sono Road, Zone 2, is motivating the Grade 12 to study and pass their matric.

Mhlanga’s company provides security for Diepkloof Square among their many clients.

Mhlanga said that he understands what the matric pupils are going through.

“I have been in the situation they are in and I know how scary it is. I want to motivate the Grade 12s to work hard so that they can be successful in life,” he said.

Mhlanga admitted that he, due to peer pressure, did not do well in his matric which lead him to being involved in crime.

“I don’t want young people do go the same way as I did. I urge young people to be themselves and not be influenced by friends or trends,” he said.

The hardworking Mhlanga changed his life after seeing his friends going to jail or dying due to the crime they were involved in.

“I took myself to security school and went on studying and now I own a successful businessman. It was not an easy journey and it is still not easy but I have done it,” he said.

The 35-year-old is well known to the community for helping disadvantaged families and he said that he loves giving back to the community.

“I believe that everyone has their own skills that they excel in, be it cooking, cleaning, whatever. I urge the youth to start working with the things that they can do and work upwards from there,” he said.

Mhlanga said that it is never too late to learn.

“It will happen that someone will fail, I urge them to try again and stay away from get-rich schemes. My advice to young people is that they should be patient and work hard,” he said.
