When Duty Calls Operation a triumph

The Moroka police recently conducted a ‘When Duty Calls Operation’, where they raided Merafe Hostel and its outskirts.

As a result a total of 40 suspects were arrested.

According to the Communications Officer of the Moroka police station, Constable John Serala, 31 of the suspects were arrested in the first group of the operation for being in possession of stolen property, murder, possession of unlicensed firearms, being in possession of dagga, house breaking and theft, dealing with liquor without licences and assault common and assault grievous and bodily harm (GBH).

He said: “From those 31 people, there were also four firearms that were recovered (one 9mm was for business robbery, another 9mm for was an unlicensed firearm, there was a 9mm toy gun used in an armed robbery and the last 9mm was recovered at White City).

“We also had a recovery of Ak47 ammunition.

“In addition to these, five liquor outlets and shebeens were closed down for dealing in liquor without having licences and the liquor was impounded.”

Serala said in their second part of the operation another group of nine was also arrested for being in possession of dagga, three knives, 10 knobkerries, four spears and one sjambock and all these were confiscated.

The police warned that more of these operations would be conducted in various areas to attend to crimes that they have prioritised.

All the suspects will appear in the Protea Magistrate Court soon and further investigations are being conducted.
