‘Prophet’ uses prayer to scam

A woman was scammed by a so called prophet and an accomplice in Zone Two.

A woman was scammed by a so called prophet and an accomplice in Zone Two, two weeks ago.

Yvonne Pheladi was on her way home from the newly opened Ndofaya Mall.

She was carrying groceries worth about R400 when a man asking for directions to a salon stopped her.

“He said he was looking for a house in the area with a salon and told me he was a prophet.

“Soon after that another man passed us and the ‘prophet’ stopped to ask him about the salon since I could not seem to help.

While the man stopped the prophet started telling the man about his problems and what he needs to solve them.

“He then came to me and started telling me about my problems.

“I paid attention because he was accurate about my life,” she said.

Not far from where they were standing there was a dark blue Jetta, the prophet asked them to get inside where the ‘prophet’ told them they need to pray for their enemies and what was not going right in their lives.

As advised, they did just that, Pheladi said the prophet said they must count seven houses from where they were, pray there, pick a stone up and take it back to the car then they will be given a mirror where they will see their enemy’s faces.

She said: “The other man went out to pray first and left his car and valuables with so he won my trust.

“He came back, looked at the mirror and acted like he was seeing his enemy on the mirror.

“It was my turn so I went out, picked the rock, prayed seven houses away from the car and when I came back, the car was gone and both the men fled with her groceries and phone”.

She warns other residents not to fall into the trap of being scammed and hopes that the police will arrest the scammers.

Constable Sibusiso Chauke said a case of theft under false pretence had been opened and advises residents to be careful because criminals always invent new methods of robbing people.
