Coach Shifa Fredericks shared that the former Banyana Banyana player popped in at the ladies training session.

“Her main point during her talk was that the ladies should never give up, they should keep pushing and work 100 times harder than any man would work. She gave motivation on so many levels, she even inspired me. Myself and Dunga use to play together at UJ and she use to be my captain. She explained that we are a family on and off the pitch and we ladies should lift each other up,” explained Fredericks.

Dunga did not train with the ladies, she did however take notes of the girls and provided coach Fredericks with advice on how to do certain drills and tactics during training.

“She was really impressed by the ladies. She taught me so much and I will be using everything she’s taught me in training,” added Fredericks.

Fredericks also mentioned that she was amazed that Dunga would come this far to give the ladies motivation, hope and teachings.

“She showed these ladies that they are noticed and that they are important. One thing that we focus on at Midas is the importance of education with sports, Dunga also touched on that and motivated the ladies to push with their education as they can not only depend on soccer as a career. I am really glad that I could assist the girls with this opportunity. I want to push the ladies to be better than I ever was and better than what they think they want to be,” concluded Fredericks.

Midas is starting their junior girls’ soccer league which they are calling Midas Minions and the club is encouraging all girls to join.
