RAF on the Road’– Orlando East

RAF to disprove the old perception that claimants can only claim through a lawyer.

Minister of Transport, Dipuo Peters, and her Deputy Sindisiwe Chikunga will lead an intensive “RAF on the Road” community outreach campaign which will run concurrently in four provinces on Saturday, 15 March.

RAF staff members will be in Orlando East (Soweto), YMCA hall, on Saturday, 15 February 2014, from 06H00 to 18H00.

Although the venue is in Orlando all Soweto residents are encouraged to come.

Heavily supported by live television and radio, the campaign takes place in the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Gauteng from 06h00 to 18h00. It aims to expand communication, improve access and accelerate the processing and payment of claims and post settlements.

Speaking at an RAF event in Upington in February while highlighting the gains South Africa had achieved 20 years into democracy, Minister Peters singled out the organisation as one of the few government entities that led the pack in bridging the gap between government and the public.

It was also noteworthy, she added, that the RAF had managed to deliver on its mandate, strategic objectives and road safety awareness campaigns to all road users.

On the day, eligible community members will be invited to claim directly with the Fund, thus saving them from unnecessary contingency fees and disproving the old perception that they can only claim through a lawyer.

They will also be educated about the RAF, given settlement offers, assisted with claims enquiries and provided with support to rehabilitate accident survivors.

Since March 2012, a total of 31 outreach campaigns in nine provinces have been reached while settlement offers worth approximately R254 million have been made.

This has brought much needed relief and socio-economic balance amongst claimants and families torn apart by road crashes.

RAF’s Corporate Social Investment projects which include the sponsorship of scholar patrol uniforms, literary material and school shoes, amongst others, will be presented to underprivileged learners during a media briefing.

Road safety education and awareness aimed at promoting compliance to traffic rules, changing road users’ behaviour and curbing the escalating rate of accidents and fatalities, will also be given that day.

You are hereby cordially invited to attend this community outreach campaign and utilise this opportunity to meet RAF’s key stakeholders and understand RAF’s mandate.

NB. Bring your ID or driver’s for enquiries.
