Protea Glen bereaved families left in the dark

No arrests have been made yet.

The Mazibuko and Nkholongwaene families are left in the dark after their sons were killed by a car that was allegedly driven by a JMPD officer on Saturday, June 19.

The two friends Sakhile Mazibuko and Khayalethu Nkholongwaene were walking from a friend’s 21st birthday celebration party when they met their untimely death near Casban.

The two families understand that the accident might have been a mistake as they believe that the suspect was drunk and should be a lesson for people to stop drinking and driving and be cautious while on the roads. This goes for both drivers and pedestrians.

What triggers the families is that since the tragic accident occurred, no arrests have been made even though the suspect is known.

“Now it’s like our children died like chickens. Since their death, no arrest has been made, we are not even informed about the developments of the case. It seems as if those in authority are doing all they can to protect their own and ensure that this case is declared null and void,” said devastated Themba Mazibuko, father to the deceased, Sakhile.

“We want the suspect to be arrested and action must be taken. Something needs to be done so that justice will prevail, we cannot afford to let this go. People have died and this case should be prioritised” added Mazibuko.

Mazibuko added that they had to take their case to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), hoping that it would get the attention it deserves and gets resolved.

“The person responsible for this case in the IPID doesn’t say anything unless I ask for information. It seems like nothing is done and this is what hurt us the most,” he further explained.

After days of trying to reach IPID, they were not available for comment.
