“We all have our different foods, clothes, languages and so much more. We just want our children to learn about the cultures and ways of different people. We are a rainbow nation and I believe that we can all celebrate each other’s heritage, this is what makes us different to the rest of the world,” explained Jacobs.

The Smartstart coach for Region G, Thandeka Dlamini-Ngidi was also present for the celebrations, she shared that it is their aim to give children quality learning.

“We don’t want to leave any child behind but we want every child to reach primary school on the same level. Our children are different from other Early Childhood Development centres because of the daily routine that we have. We are very strict with routine and how the child is treated, we allow the children to learn from playing. Three- to four-year-old is the age group that we focus on and we target vulnerable communities where the government often neglects,” she added.

The learners and teachers were divided into the different classes who then represented the Zulu, Indian, and Muslim culture.

After the children and teachers all presented their traditional dances, they sat down to enjoy some boerewors, breyani, chakalaka and pap just to name a few.
