Jolidee Matongo honoured in a Wreath Laying ceremony at the Golden Highway

Memorial service in honour of Matongo will be held at Uncle Tom's Hall in Orlando West at 3pm today.

In a Wreath Laying ceremony led by the City of Johannesburg, family, friends, and colleagues of the late mayor of Joburg, Jolidee Matongo gathered at the site at which he lost his life, at the Golden Highway to honour him.

Matongo died last weekend in a car crash in which two other people were killed while his two bodyguards were taken to hospital for their injuries.
Earlier on the day of the accident, he had joined ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa, Gauteng premier David Makhura and ANC head of elections Fikile Mbalula on the campaign trail in some parts of Soweto.

Council speaker Nonceba Molwele said that they’re saddened by the loss of two of their mayors in less than three months. She also said that the Wreath laying ceremony is also dedicated to two other people who lost their lives in the tragic accident.
