He served the South African Police Service for a total of thirty-five (35) years and six months (6) months. He was a graduate and held a diploma in field of Police Administration. “Brigadier PH Van Dyk had a passion for serving the community. He always went over and above his abilities to offer assistance to those in need

He always availed himself and maintained an open-door policy for the community members and his colleagues. He constantly and swiftly attended to calls of distress and assistance during all hours of the day. He was selfless, dedicated and committed to serving the community and the SAPS with dignity and pride.

Eldorado Park SAPS has lost a pillar of strength however his legacy will forever continue,” said communications officer; Constable Roxanne Gibb. We asked a few residents to share their thoughts on the passing of their station commander and this is what they had to say:

“May the humble, patient, and caring soul of our Station Commander Rest in Eternal Peace! Always there when I called on him, didn’t matter what time it was. He would make his team send pictures of them being around to prove that they were where we needed them to be. Always there to listen and always gave the best advice, didn’t matter what the situation was! I’m personally going to miss him; hence he was like a father to me. Another legend has fallen. Much love, appreciation and gratitude from myself and team GBF,” said founder of the Gail Britoe Foundation, Ensley Britoe.

The chairperson of the Greater Kliptown Community Policing Forum Billy Petersen sent his sincere and deepest condolences to the family of the late Brigadier Van Dyk.

“Firstly, my condolences to the family of Brigadier Van Dyk and the entire Eldorado Park SAPS family, myself and Brig had some good and some bad moments as we did not always agree on everything. I need to say that his death has left a void in our community that won’t be easily filled as he earned the respect of residents over the years and imparted much knowledge over to most of us. What I can say Salute Brig and may your soul rest in peace,” said Dwain Ponsonby.

President of the Patriotic Alliance (PA), Gayton McKenzie also shared a statement: “Brigadier Van Dyk was at the Eldos Police Station for many years and had earned the respect of community he served.

Throughout his service he maintained a close bond with his officers whom he held in immense respect for, not least for their South African robustness and strength of character.

That respect was reciprocated and perhaps best reflected by a recent comment from one of his officers stating- ‘I only hold the utmost admiration and total respect for a wonderful man.’ The Patriotic Alliance consider this a great loss to the community we serve and we wish to pass our sincere condolences on to his bereaved family, friends and colleagues. We Pray that God will accept his soul into Heaven and grant him eternal peace.”
