Women’s Day celebration with a purpose

Sensation Sixty Ambassador will be officially launched on October 31, this is Mackett's project aimed at ensuring that no learner is absent from school due to a lack of sanitary pads.

While everyone celebrated women’s day all over the country, Noordgesig Community Empowerment Project in partnership with Lead Purple Leaders held a women’s day event with a purpose.

With Noordgesig Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Support Group forming a part of this, the organisations held a roundtable discussion, exploring issues surrounding the culture and resilience of women in the area and discussed possible solutions to burning issues that women are faced with today in order to create a more equal society.

“Through the discussions with the partners, it was evident that such events are needed on a regular basis and the partners suggested that we make it an annual event, where we highlight the courage and plight of women in Noordgesig and in South Africa as a whole,” said Rebecca Mackett of Lead Purple Leaders.

“This event also inspired thoughts of having future partnerships between the two groups to provide spaces for dialogues to find solutions to issues affecting women,” she added.
