Pimville community unites to help family

The community of Pimville came together to help a family of five.

The community of Pimville has come together to help a family of five. Spearheading the mission was the Kasi Hero Foundation, which regularly supports communities through a soup kitchen and various donation initiatives.

Co-founder of the foundation, Tankiso Moremi said a colleague and concerned neighbour of the family reached out to his team.

“One of our sisters who helps with the soup kitchen is their (family) neighbour. She told us about a family that is struggling.

“We decided to go see it and when we arrived we were immediately touched by what we found. The family was barely getting by, with three kids and both adults unemployed,” said Moremi.

Moremi and his team decided to take two blankets that they collected as part of their 67 Blankets for Mandela Day initiative and give them to the family. They proceeded to take the family on a grocery shopping spree worth R500.

“We posted on Facebook and fortunately, Bi Phakathi donated R2 500,” Moremi added.

Kasi Hero then went out to find a new home for the family. Thandie Banjathwa of Livumile Icamagu Foundation helped in finding a location for the new home. The team then used the R2 500 donated by Phakathi and added their own to purchase a new shack for the family.

The team posted on the Pimville residents’ Facebook page where residents of Pimville started offering tables, cupboards, and a bed to support the family. The new shack was erected on Wednesday afternoon.

Local restaurant Onions & All has also chipped to support the family. Combined efforts are currently underway to secure employment for the mother and father of the three children, who have also opened a small tuckshop to make ends meet.

Kasi Hero is still calling on residents to lend a hand.
