Nomgenge Duo (ND) launches store in Eldorado Park
The launch of a clothing brand which was started by twenty-four-year-old Siboniso Nomgenge had quite the turnout with residents.
The clothing brand Nomgenge Duo (ND) which is based in Eldorado Park had a launch for their first official physical store. The launch of a clothing brand which was started by twenty-four-year-old Siboniso Nomgenge had quite the turnout with residents, local brands, and entrepreneurs such as Leroy April, (the founder of LA Designs) all present to support the brand.
“It’s been about three years in the making. I don’t give up easily, my upbringing does not slow me down. We started selling out of a box, then had pop-up stores and now we have our store. It’s the journey of an entrepreneur, no one gave us anything and that is what we want to inspire the youth with, it is possible to have a clean hustle,” said Nomgenge.
The brand believes in giving back to the community so they gave out 100 party packs to the children who were present at the launch, and everyone had lunch together.
“We know the narrative here in our community, drug lords are seen as the icons of Eldorado Park and our small, medium-sized enterprise owners are just seen as random guys. We do not have to follow the negative narrative. I would like to also start with mentorships because without the correct mentorship the process just takes longer. We have a team of young photographers, junior designers, writers, seamstresses, aspiring models, everyone is from Eldorado Park and we are giving them the exposure. We feed off from each other, like they say, iron sharpens iron. We also want to partner with organisations in our community so that we can work on more projects to give back to our community,” explained Nomgenge.
The entrepreneur shared that the burden is now lighter since they launched the store. They also partnered with proudly SA so that they can have their online store too. Nomgenge added that they are achieving the goals that they’ve set up for this year.
When it comes to what keeps the young entrepreneur inspired, he shared: “I am a believer, so I read the Bible, my favourite book is Proverbs, that’s where I get my inspiration from. I also read a lot of books of other entrepreneurs, I feed my mind with positivity despite my surroundings and what I see. I have audiobooks also, I also have the leverage of speaking to icons of Eldorado Park, that didn’t come easy, I had to build myself as a brand for them to see me as one who wants to be a good example in the community so now I have them as mentors too. My circle is also very small and I keep it that way so that I can remain focus.”
