Pastor Mpfariseni Mukhuba appeared on May 6 at the Protea Magistrate’s Court and the case was postponed to June 2 because the prosecuting officer and his team were not ready and still need a statement from their .

Congregants came out in numbers to support their pastor, they held up placards and were singing.

The South African National Christian Forum’s (SANCF) president Bishop Marothi Mashashane was also there in support of the woman of God.

“We are expecting the case to be withdrawn against the pastor especially so because of unfair treatment and inconsistency from the side of the police, the government has failed to apply and comply with its regulation in treating or enforcing it. The way they treat the churches is not how they treat the comrades for example,” Mashashane said.

Pastor Mukhuba and her husband Theophilus expressed disappointment with the fact that the independent witness has not yet given a statement thus prolonging the case.
“It has been approximately 2 months and they are still creating a case, how is it possible that they would come to court so unprepared and not have this independent witness,” Theophilus said.

He further added that it took the police 8 hours to formulate charges when the pastor and the other 7 members of the church were arrested.

“This is pure victimisation and waste of state resources, it’s pure use of those resources to suppress those who disagree with you,” he said.
