Training goes well

Emshukantambo Senior Secondary School pupils embark on training programme to counsel their peers.

To become school-based career councillors, five pupils from Emshukantambo Senior Secondary School attended a three-day training programme at the University of Johannesburg (Soweto Campus).

After the training, the pupils given certificates of accreditation.

Pule Hlahane, a teacher at the school, said he was elated with the strides pupils were making so early in the year.

“These pupils will help in counselling their peers on career choices and they will also give advice on what institutions cater for their career choices,” Hlahane said.

Nolwandle Ndinisa, chairperson of the group, said she was happy with the training that they received and hopes with the knowledge she acquired she is certain that she will help her peers.

“They taught us to look at people’s characters, and then help guide them towards the type of subjects they need to take in-order to work towards the career they want,” she said.

“We sent our pupils to this type of training because we felt that pupils respond better when they are addressed by their peers instead of us adults.

“Pupils have responded well to these new councillors as they have already made appointments with them,” said Hlahane.

“Helping is my passion and the fact that I would be helping others, gives me joy,” said Ndinisa.
