Diepkloof author used lockdown to write and publish a book for teens
The book shares the principles for getting through adolescent and taking care of a teenager.
Without a doubt, the lockdown has affected us in many ways, but for Diepkloof’s very own Be Accentuated founder and author Joey Dlamini, it served as a trigger to finally write and publish a book. Teen Top 20, is the title of the book, which shares lessons to adulthood. She says it was inspired by her love for kids.
“During lockdown level 5, I thought to myself, this is an opportunity, I don’t have any excuses, I don’t have deadlines, I have a lot of free time, why not write a book. I started writing, typing all the ideas on my phone. And then I saw a sponsored ad on Facebook, meant to call all the aspiring authors to join free webinar online lessons. Then that gave me a lot of motivation,” she said.
“The book is based on my life experiences as a teenager, how I felt and some of the issues I had to deal with, I felt that I didn’t have the support I needed, so in the book, I’m sharing all the key points to survive adolescent, I did this by sharing my life experiences, and how they can do differently and better, they don’t have to go through what I went through, but they can learn from what I went through,” Dlamini added
Dlamini is a mother of 3 and her first son just turned 13, a mother to a new teenager and she says that this book will not only benefit teens but mothers to teenagers and everyone else.
” My wish is that parents also get the book because besides you raising a teenager, some people went through adolescent trauma and this book can bring healing, I can bet you a lot of people will relate,” she said.
