Emshukantambo learners received free haircut courtesy of Legends Barbershop

Legends Barbershop is stylishly starting the year by giving learners in schools around Soweto free haircuts. The haircut drive started with a visit to Emshukamntambo Secondary on Thursday morning, where 20 learners were lucky enough to get a free haircut.

The initiative is a combined effort that saw barbers from both Legends Maponya and Legends Dobsonville visit the Pimville based school. Speaking to Soweto Urban for Legends Barbershop, Ramza Serobe said they wanted to help learners boost their self-esteem.

“As cliché as it sounds, if you look good, you feel good, then you do well,” he said.

“Everyone just came back from a tough year and we wanted a way we could boost learner’s self-esteem. We hope these haircuts will give learners the confidence to start the academic year on the right foot. We’ve also received so much support from Soweto communities – especially teenagers, and wanted to return that faith while putting smiles on their faces.”

Grade 12 learner, Thabiseng Mohloai was one of the lucky learners to get her hair cut by the popular barbershop.

“One thing I know about Legends Barbershop is that they are very good at their job. As soon as I heard they’d be coming to the school I was excited and I wanted to be a part of it,” she said.

Her grade mate, Tebogo Ramathlola said he hoped to see the campaign continue.

“It is a confidence booster. I feel like stepping right now and showing everyone. That confidence transcends into your academics and everything else you do, so it’s a good start to the year. I hope they continue doing this” he said shortly after getting his haircut.

The school’s Projects’ Co-ordinator, Pule Hlahane extended his gratitude to Legends Barbershop

“I will admit I had no idea how huge and popular Legends barber was amongst the learners, I only realised when we announced that they would be coming – everyone wanted a haircut! You can see how the mood has been lifted around the school through this initiative and we want to say a big thank you to the Legends team,” Hlahane said.
