The cluster revealed that these crimes ranged from armed and unarmed robberies, undocumented persons, and possession of stolen vehicles amongst others. The arrests were the results of joint operations by the Soweto East District with other law enforcement agencies.

In one case, three men between the ages of 30 and 39 were arrested for driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen. Other offenses include the possession of unlicensed firearms and dealings of liquor without a liquor license.

“The Police and the members of the public are extensively commended. We thrive to better the lives and the security of all members of the community. The commitment and dedication of the police and all members of the community are exceptional and the Soweto East Cluster is gradually becoming a better place to live in, step by step.”

One member of the community certainly pleased with the police is Neo Motaung, who said he appreciated the improved police activity.

“We hope 2021 can be the year where we see more police making these arrests and keeping our streets clean. It’s good to see these numbers and hear that our police are working hard. We also have to thank our neighbourhood watches and Community Police Forums (CPFs) who report the crimes” he said.
