Class of 2020 anxiously look for their matric results in the early hours of the morning

The Minister for Basic Education, Angie Motshekga was pleased to announce that at least 76.2% of learners passed for the 2020 Academic Year.

Many learners in Protea Glen from various schools in Soweto woke up anxiously waiting to find out if they had made it or not. Some used apps and phones to find out their fate, but many others like Lerato Nhlapo used the old school method; turning pages through the newspapers, to see if their names appeared, as a sign of their achievement.

Nhlapo was delighted to find his name written in black on white, however, it was not all celebration for other learners, like Lesego Phiri from Morris Isaacson in deep Soweto.

Phiri searched the newspapers and couldn’t find his name, but even though it was tough for the young man, he said, “I plan on focusing ahead and rewriting, I will not despair.”
