Eldorado Park SAPS asks parents to exercise stricter parental control over their children

Children not following the lockdown level 3 regulations.

Since the schools are still closed, there has been a big presence of teenagers sitting or playing in parks and socialising on corners. Despite the lockdown level 3 regulations, many children seem to ignore the call for all to stay at home during these times. In the Eldorado Park community group chats, there have been concerned residents posting about the recklessness of parents who leave their children to go socialize in public spaces.

The regulations of social distancing and wearing of masks are not adhered to and teens are also sharing hookah pipes during their socials.

Eldorado Park SAPS communications officer, Constable Roxanne Gibb released a statement today, calling on all parents within the greater Eldorado Park to exercise stricter parental control over their children, especially during alert level three.

“It was announced that all parks are closed during this period, however, the Eldorado Park SAPS has been receiving numerous complaints about the children playing soccer in the parks. Thus, allowing it to be considered as a gathering which is currently prohibited.”

“The emphasis on the seriousness and implications, including the consequences of failing to adhere has previously been communicated to the community at large.”

“Regardless, parents are failing to confine their minor children to their place of residence. This, therefore, serves as a warning to parents to start knowing the whereabouts of their children, because if any child/ren is found gathering in a park, hence endangering the lives of others, the parent of the said child will face the repercussions of not exercising parental control over their child/ren,” explained Constable Gibb.

Eldorado Park SAPS members have been dispatched to conduct regular surveillance on all parks within the Greater Eldorado Park, and anyone found to neglect their duties of parenting will be in contravention of the law.

“All parents need to take heed and assist in creating a safer and crime-free community for all. Your co-operation in this regard is highly appreciated,” concluded Gibb.
