The 5th of June will forever be the worst date for slain Tshegofatso Pule’s family and friends as it evokes memories of the pain and suffering of someone they dearly loved.

On the said date last year the community of Durban Deep in Roodepoort was shocked by the discovery of the body of Tshego who had been stabbed and left hanging from a tree.

The 28-year-old woman from Soweto was eight months pregnant at the time of her gruesome death.

Weeks went by without an arrest and the uproar from gender-based violence activists on June 16 shook up the police who subsequently made an arrest 24 hours later.

A suspect by the name of Muzikayise Malephane was identified as the suspect and accused of Tshego’s murder.

Since appearing in court on 17 June, the 31-year-old was denied bail in both the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court and South Gauteng High Court where his case will be heard.
Before the Christmas break, Malephane made his last appearance on 9 December when his trial date was set.

Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng who is presiding over the matter, has set 22 January 2021 as the first day of this trial.
