Heavy rainfalls a nightmare for Protea Glen residents

Rains wreak havoc.

The current heavy rainfalls left Protea residents distressed as it started flooding and some of the houses were affected. the houses were destroyed and flooded by the severe hailstorms which hit parts of Gauteng since January, 1.

Humphrey Tshaka, Extension 20 resident was left stranded after the rain destroyed his wall, “The damage was a lot to deal with, my house was drowning, and drains couldn’t maintain the volume of the water.

“As a community, we still have a case of houses which were poorly built and as a case were affected by the severe hailing storm three years ago, where some of the houses were destroyed by the storm which hit part of Gauteng, Protea Glen inclusive.

“This is a complete setback, costly and tiring”, he said.

“We have discovered that our area is dolomite dominated, hence we always get affected by these natural disasters, but now the question we asking as residents is how was the land approved for residential? We seek permanent solutions, we can not always stress about what will should nature take its cause”, he added.

Tshaka was left distracted by the heavy rains as his furniture was damaged, his car also affected which led him into taking it to a mechanic. ” I don’t have insurance, I must pay for it in cash”, he concluded.
