The MB Foundation in need of funding to provide young girls with hygiene essentials

MB Foundation needs help.

Monique Badenhorst, Miceala Terblanche and Justin Badenhorst started the MB Foundation, a non-profit organisation (NPO) which originally started in Eldorado Park extension 3.

According to Monique, the NPO focuses on youth empowerment and community service. “We do talks with the youth group and recently started a Girl Gang Group with the most amazing young girls from Riverlea, Ennerdale, and Eldorado Park that will do community service once a month. These girls are hungry and eager to serve their community.”

On November 7, the organisation had their first charity drive where the Girl Gang went to Bible Revival Church in Riverlea to do a talk and hand out dignity packs.

“We are short with funding as we always provide a goodie bag to the girls that attend our motivational talk. The goodie bags normally have lotion, soap, sweets, roll-on and sanitary pads. We also distribute dignity packs as and when we have as young girls should not worry about being clean. We are also in need of catering for snacks while we do the talks. The talk teaches young girls about the daily struggles, safety, saving, sex, boys, teenage pregnancy, chores, and many more. We make it fun and interactive,” said Monique.

When asked why it was so important to start such a program in the community, Monique explained: “The world is a very cruel place and our young kids are getting lost due to lack of support. Many of the teenagers cannot speak to their parents and is willing to talk to a stranger. Many of them are also not educated at home around sex, boys, menstruation, hygiene, and how to save.

We actually teach them how to save. I had a session where I gave all the girls a R2 to take home and grow. They did chores at home to get extra money. They learned the importance of saving. We also teach them not to walk alone in the street as part of safety. They should know that someone out there cares about them and that I am here to help with anything. The Girl Gang was started to keep our young girls focused on positive things and keep them from the streets.”

The NPO would like the community to support the talks by sending their young girls as it’s very insightful and fun. The foundation needs funding for the care packs and catering for when they do the talks. They would also like to get the youth involved in team-building once they have enough funding as it should be at no cost to underprivileged kids.

MB Foundation will be having their next charity drive for an old age home where we will hand out tea and biscuit packs to an Old age home in Eldorado Park as the elderly are often forgotten.
