Men wanted for attacking Eskom Security Officers in Soweto

Two other officers passed away earlier this month.

Investigations are underway after a security officer contracted by Eskom sustained gunshot injuries while on patrol in Soweto.

The incident occurred shortly after two other security officers contracted by the power utility company gave up to gunshot injuries they sustained in Lenesia on 10 November after being attacked by unknown suspects, while the other incident took place along Chris Hani Road in Soweto.

Both these incidents are being investigated by the SAPS and no arrests have been made so far.

The spokesperson for Eskom Gauteng Reneiloe Semenya said, “We condemn these acts of criminality and we are requesting the people to come forth with any information that might lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.”

The preliminary findings indicate that the officers were ambushed from behind. Semenya said, “Eskom symphathises with the injured and the families of the deceased security officers. We are still very concerned about the escalating acts of theft and vandalism on our network equipment and infrastructure aimed at derailing its efforts to provide electricity.”

The network patrols are part of the power utility’s strategy to fight the escalating theft of its network infrastructure such as cables and transformers, which is responsible for many prolonged outages in Gauteng.

People with any information about the incidents that led to the loss of the lives of the security guards can call the police on 08600 10111 or Eskom Crime line at 0800 11 22 27.
