Hector Peterson Primary School receives cash donation and masks

The school got a donation of R12 000 and 4000 masks for learners.

Hector Peterson Primary School in Dobsonville Extention 3 was privileged enough to get a visit from SAMSON and well-known TV personalities such as Eric Macheru from Skeem Saam and others.

The school got a donation of R12 000 and 4000 masks for learners. These were received by the principal Mzingisi Bonongo.

The pandemic has affected everyone including learners who have had to adapt to the COVID- 19 regulations such as wearing masks, social distancing, and having school attendance days reduced.

This has been difficult because some children because no parents can afford to buy masks to keep their children protected from COVID-19.

“SAMSON resonates with Hector Peterson Primary School because when Hector Peterson was shot, Mbuyiso Makhubu was wearing a SAMSON branded shirt and them choosing to donate to us at these trying times is honestly an honour, said principal Bonongo.”

With the school being one of the most underprivileged these donations were of huge help.

Not only has the pandemic affected the learners, but even the teachers have been affected as they had to change the way they work. Having learners attending school on a reduced number of days after taking breaks during lockdown has made it difficult for the teachers to complete the curriculum that is given to them by the Department of Education.

Siyanda Ndebele, who is a grade 7 learner said, “We were excited to see people we only see behind the screen and we were happy to get masks because we need them. Things have been the same for me except for the fact that we get days off from school, we have to wear masks and practice social distancing.”
