Spotlight on assault cases

During the festive season Meadowlands saw a spike in assault cases reported to the police.

Assault cases were many in December in Meadowlands, this according to Meadowlands police.

Constable Sibusiso Chauke said they attended more cases of assault.

“The holidays are a time for celebration but all the people wanted to do was fight.

“In many cases, drunkenness led to the fights,” he said.

Last Saturday a 22-year-old woman was arrested after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend in Zone Three.

It was reported that the fight broke out after she had an argument with her boyfriend’s mother.

January 1 in Zone Four, a man found his sister with four men in his room.

Hw says when he asked them to leave an argument started.

His sister slapped him and he was hit with a beer bottle on his face and beaten up by the four men.

Also on the January 1, in Zone Nine a tavern owner and his neighbour allegedly beat up a patron who reported bad service.

There are many other cases of assault that are pending, Chauke said people should know their drinking limit and refrain from being violent because they will be in trouble with the law.
