Eldos Extension 7 residents start neighbourhood watch to curb crime

The neighbourhood watch team now consists of 35 members.

The neighbourhood watch in Pennsylvania Street, Extension 7 of Eldorado Park had its launch on October 4. According to Buddy Manse who is the chairman and block leader, the neighbourhood watch started back in March before the started were they structured a crime watchtower in their block.

“As chairman and my street committee decided to launch from March 26, after the crime took off when two property burglaries in our street happened, it was a rude awakening,” said Manse.

The chairman added that their neighbourhood watch is women dominated and strong and their objectives are; crime prevention and to stand against substance abuse in the neighbourhood.

“We will assist in domestic fabricated cases, fight juvenile delinquency, tidy up our block, and promote love, peace, and gladness. We would like a neighbourhood in which all can live harmoniously. Coming together is a decision and working together is a process,” explained Manse.

The neighbourhood watch team now consists of 35 members. Manse is the chairman and chief of a block patrol team of eighteen men. Zaid Moosa is the deputy chair and tactician, and Taira Vithalaas is the general secretary and chief of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and femicide.

“During levels 2 and 3 we interrupted thieves on two different occasions from breaking into Don Matera School on corner Michigan and Pennsylvania Street and we’ll never tolerate it. No to vandalism of our own structures. Let’s not create a market for thieves by buying stolen goods.

“We wish the entire Eldorado Park community can join in claiming back our blocks from criminals and substance abuse stewards,” concluded Manse.
